PRIME TIME ON I-10
April 29, 2010
For the next four months Prime Time is on the road, or at least next to it. Our is located on East bound I-10 between Date Palm and Ramon Road. Look for it next time you are in the area. The intent of this promotion is to encourage consumers to ask for Prime Time peppers when they shop and also to pay tribute to our twenty year history in the Coachella Valley.
The next two months are our busiest months of the year, with peak production of peppers, corn, watermelon, beans and eggplant coming from the Coachella Valley - in addition to big pepper volume crossing in San Diego.
The year is off to a great start and the Spring crop here looks outstanding. Thanks to one and all for the huge effort it takes to make all this happen.
CONSUMERS & PEPPERS
March 12, 2010In researching pepper consumption for some planned promotions with our customers, I found some interesting information.
According to the 2010 Fresh Trends, researched and published by The Packer:
- For the third straight year pepper consumption has risen - up 7% last year, up 13% the prior year, and up 9% the year before that.
- 77% of consumers buy fresh peppers on a regular basis. (Not dollar sales, but percent of people who buy regularly).
- If that doesn't sound like a lot, it is higher than items like Asparagus, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, and Lettuce.
- This makes peppers one of the most powerful vegetable items in the store behind only potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and carrots. Peppers then are only behind carrots on the wet rack.
We are definitely on the right track, we are getting bigger in an expanding category. For this reason, the product extension of peppers might make more sense than getting into new commodities.
